Biotechnology is the technology of biology to develop new products, methods and organisms intended to improve human health and society. Biotechnology, often referred to as biotech, has existed since the beginning of civilization with the domestication of plants, animals and the discovery of fermentation. It is a field of applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bio-processes in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields requiring bio-products. Biotechnology is the science for this century drawing upon the sciences of biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computers, and information technology to develop next generation scientific breakthroughs and products.
The Department of Biotechnology came into existence in the year 2022. Since its commencement, the Department has been imparting quality education at UG level and conducting advanced research in front line areas with a major focus on Effective utilization of Agriculture and Domestic waste, Bionanotechnology and Sustainability so that the students get not only academic exposure but are also benefited as per industrialization and startups.

Note:
The scholarships are given on an annual basis. To continue the scholarships after the first year, the student will have to maintain a minimum prescribed academic performance during the course of the programme. The students selected for any of the above mentioned scholarships in the first year will have to complete the entire course of duration at OPJU only.
